Minimum Qualifications

 

 
 
 

 

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.

  • Ability to clearly communicate instructions, directions and information to the general public, especially children.

  • Good skills working with the public and interacting with people of all ages, interests, viewpoints and background skills.

  • Ability to withstand exposure to varying weather conditions/temperatures for extended periods and work effectively during daylight and evening hours.

  • Ability to operate audiovisual equipment.

  • Ability to conduct nature programs/activities in variety of terrain and settings.

  • Possess and maintain a valid State of North Dakota driver’s license with the ability to operate vehicles.

Preference will be given to applicants who have training or experience in a communication, education and/or interpretive field.

Requires satisfactory completion of the interview process and a verifiable record of satisfactory performance in previous employment.

Housing may be provided at the various parks.

Summary of Work

 

 
 
 

 

Seasonal Interpreters are responsible to the Lake Metigoshe State Park (LMSP) Interpreter/Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) Coordinator who supervises the operation of the park’s interpretive and recreational programming services.  Programs promote awareness, appreciation and preservation of the natural, cultural, environmental and historical resources in the state park through hands-on activities. 

Main duty includes delivering programs for school, youth, scouts or other groups visiting the OLC in addition to general LMSP visitors attending weekend interpretive programming.  OLC/LMSP has a wide variety of canned programs as well as equipment (pelts, compasses, gps units, canoes/kayaks, replica scat/tracks, field guides, test kits, etc.) to use for OLC groups, who are required to make prior arrangements.  The canned programs and equipment is made available for programs that take place every weekend (mid-May through Labor Day weekend) at the park.  Once seasonal staff arrives, each weekend of the summer is given a theme where staff either research and develop their own programs and/or utilize canned OLC programming and activities.

Job Duration:

Positions are generally 40 hours per week.
