Overview

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Tanzania Program wishes to recruit a Project Manager to support WCS in its response to the SAGCOT development program. WCS is an international conservation organization based in New York with a country office and strong portfolio of conservation projects in Tanzania.

Responsibilities

Serve as the project manager for a MacArthur funded project on balancing wildlife conservation, water resource management and agricultural development in southern Tanzania

Help design the project’s scientific studies to inform relevant policy questions and issues in the region

Serve as the local coordinator and liaison between stakeholders working in the SAGCOT area and the project to identify information needs of decision makers

Work with stakeholders to identify key gaps in knowledge related to wildlife, water and agriculture connections

Represent WCS at SAGCOT secretariat meetings

Participate in an interdisciplinary working group on balancing agriculture development and wildlife conservation in the SAGCOT

Desired Qualifications

A minimum of three years of working experience in conservation

Degree in natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, environmental economics, environmental policy, geographic information systems (GIS) or related field; Advanced degree preferred

Experience working in Tanzania on conservation or natural resource management issues

Experience working with GIS strongly preferred

Understanding of Tanzania wildlife, water, and agricultural policies

The ability to work and communicate effectively with a diversity of social groups from policy makers, corporate representatives, rural communities and scientists.

Strong presentation and writing abilities in English

Be national or legal resident of Tanzania

The Project Manager would report to the WCS Country Director, ideally the position will be based in Dar es Salaam. WCS will offer a competitive salary for this position.
