Galápagos Conservancy is the primary U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated exclusively to the protection and restoration of the Galápagos Islands. As a leader in direct on-the-ground conservation action, we work with partners, including the Galápagos National Park Directorate, to save imperiled species, rewild the complex ecosystems of the Archipelago, and build a more sustainable society in Galápagos.

As we build out our Outreach and Philanthropy team at Galapagos Conservancy (GC), we are searching for an ambitious and experienced team player with a proven track record for successfully leading a multifaceted outreach team.

The Senior Director of Marketing, Communications, and Outreach will be a critical hire as GC embarks on a bold new path seeking to increase and improve donor engagement, refine and implement the GC brand, and sustainably double its fundraising revenue in the next three to five years.  This position will play a key role in communicating GC’s impact to donors and the general public.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to and working with the Vice President, Outreach and Philanthropy, you will be empowered to manage the Outreach Team with the strategic design, creation, and dissemination of all forms of outreach, including mail, email, social media, articles, press releases, website content, a twice-annual magazine, and an annual impact report. In conjunction with the VP, you’ll recommend and develop policies and procedures regarding outreach and communications and manage the traffic of projects to maximize success in pursuit of GC priorities.

Your responsibilities will include:

●      Develops various content types for web stories, reports, social media, and development materials; maintains marketing assets and materials; and distributes relevant communication and/or media materials, aiming to boost engagement and enhance visibility among new audiences.

●      Oversees the production of audiovisual content promoting research, conservation, and education activities.

●      Aides the marketing team in implementing communication strategies by identifying new audience demographics and conservation messaging.

●      Collaborates with vendors/external parties to fulfill projects/deliverables, including project coordination, timeline management, and support for virtual and in-person events.

●      Tracks outcomes of program initiatives and presents findings, facilitating ongoing communication among all segments of the globally dispersed marketing team and internal and external stakeholders.

●      Assists in drafting proposals and reports targeted towards our US-based donor base.

●      Supervises members of the Outreach team, and strategically and effectively develops and utilizes an annual budget in coordination with the VP of Outreach and Philanthropy.

●      In coordination with the VP of Outreach and Philanthropy, develops and implements Galapagos Conservancy and its operating arm in Ecuador Conservando Galapagos the brand guidelines and templates for use on all printed and electronic materials, as well as board packets.

●      Supervises and manages / delegates all graphic design projects in accordance with brand guidelines for GC and CG.

●      Ensures that all web presences associated with GC and CG are accurate, up to date, and compliant with all applicable laws.

●      Serves as the final editor on all print and electronic communications and development materials.

●      Develops and implements marketing strategies to enhance engagement, participation, and philanthropy.

●      Serves as the primary creator and architect of large, printed assets (Posts, Impact Report, Calendar).

●      Works closely with the Galapagos Outreach Coordinator and the Galápagos National Park Directorate to coordinate news dissemination and material production.

●      In coordination with the VP of Outreach and Philanthropy, supervises the creation and implementation of communication strategy/materials with Travel Partners and other affiliated organizations.

●      In coordination with the VP for Outreach and Philanthropy, serves as the primary architect and creator for various philanthropy-related communications of the organization, delegating projects to other Outreach staff as needed.

●      Ensures proper and timely oversight of Galápagos Conservancy photography and filming, including its coordination with the Galápagos National Park Directorate.

●      Drives the strategy and manages implementation of Local Communications including the Galapagos News Radio Magazine production and Galapagos-facing social media.

●      Regularly communicates with team members to ensure coherence in messaging and content across all Galapagos Conservancy platforms and publications.

●      Assists with Galapagos Conservancy events in Ecuador and the United States.

●      Manages storage and dissemination of media/communication assets, such as videos, photos, and print materials, utilizing existing tools.

●      Maintains outside media outreach.

●      Assists in PR and emergency communications.

●      Other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements
●      Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred)

●      Extensive knowledge and experience with US philanthropic communications and marketing

●      Fluency in English and fluency or a high degree of proficiency in Spanish

●      Three to five years of experience with an outreach or communications team (preference for experience in a conservation organization and previous leadership role)

●      Graphic design experience

●      Demonstrated experience in developing high-quality printed and web-based communications

●      Extensive written communication skills with significant attention to detail in editorial and proofreading work

●      Excellent oral communication skills

●      Capacity to multitask and continually balance competing priorities within a dynamic environment

●      Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a small team, to meet deadlines and manage multi-faceted projects with grace under pressure in a fast-paced, multitasking environment

●      Experience working with a CRM (preferred)

●      The successful applicant must meet the requirements of Galapagos Conservancy’s background screening process
