After a decade of work, Rewilding Europe is now stepping up its operations. We have developed an exciting new strategy and set ambitious goals for 2030. We now need to strengthen our Central Team and are looking to fill several vacancies. An initial set of five positions is now open for application, including the one listed below.

As an independent charitable foundation registered in the Netherlands, Rewilding Europe is a pan-European initiative operating at the frontline of European rewilding. We want to make Europe a wilder place, for the benefit of both nature and people.

A decade of committed work means Rewilding Europe is now well established, with a team of people based in 18 different European countries. Working with dedicated partner organisations, our focus is the rewilding of large landscapes and the scaling up of rewilding across Europe.

Today, the rewilding movement has never been stronger.  As we support the growth of this movement, Rewilding Europe will continue to act as a pioneer and frontrunner. Our lean and agile Central Team currently comprises seven lead positions, heading up a multinational team of 24 people. Role

The Rewilding Manager will play a pivotal role in achieving Rewilding Europe’s 2030 strategic targets for Wilder Nature and Wildlife Comeback. The Rewilding Manager leads the setup and operations of the European Wildlife Recovery Initiative and ensures coherent and systematic implementation of Rewilding Europe’s agenda on the recovery of trophic networks and deployment of coexistence strategies that fully embrace benefit-sharing mechanisms.

The Rewilding Manager oversees management of large herbivores and drives the roll out of recommendations on natural grazing from the GrazeLIFE project. The Rewilding Manager – supports the Head of Rewilding in facilitating the exchange of knowledge between the rewilding landscapes.

The Rewilding Manager reports to the Head of Rewilding and works closely together with the Rewilding Team, the Heads of Landscapes in the Central Team and the Rewilding Officers in Rewilding Europe’s partner organisations.

Main responsibilities 

The main responsibilities of the Rewilding Manager are:

• Sets up and oversees the European Wildlife Recovery Initiative, a ring-fenced and grant-making initiative to support reintroductions and population reinforcements of (mostly) keystone species across Europe, in a responsible way, and following IUCN guidelines.
• Coordinates and manages rewilding related partnerships, third parties, and consultants, relevant for the operations of the European Wildlife Recovery Initiative.
• Works closely with the rewilding landscapes on wildlife comeback, both reintroductions, coexistence strategies and management of large herbivores. Facilitates supply and demand of wildlife, ensuring that animals are available for released into areas where they are needed. This includes overseeing transport and veterinary care of animals and handling of regulatory requirements, when needed.
• Captures and applies best practices- for rewilding approaches  and facilitates  knowledge exchange between the rewilding teams.
• Conducts feasibility studies on reintroductions and/or population reinforcements and works closely with the GIS & Monitoring Manager in monitoring such interventions as well as with Rewilding Europe’s Enterprise Team in the setup of benefit-sharing mechanisms.
• Explores fundraising opportunities and contributes to the development of funding proposals to potential donors and financial partners. 

Key qualifications

• Master’s degree in large-scale wildlife management, landscape recovery, or other relevant discipline where interventions are centred on the recovery of trophic chains and not species.
• At least 5-8 years of professional experience in landscape restoration and/or rewilding.
• A keen interest in harnessing the power of domestic large herbivore breeds and how EU subsidies can be used to maximize natural grazing throughout Europe.
• A thorough understanding of recovery of forests, grasslands, rivers and other natural systems, the role large herbivores play in it, as well as understanding of the broader nature-based solutions context in Europe.Track record in managing grant systems, both as recipient and donor.
• High levels of integrity and demonstrable accuracy and excellence in her/his work.
• Willingness to travel regularly throughout Europe.
• A track record in successful inter-cultural communication, international working environment.
• Full proficiency in English (read, written, and spoken) is required, other European languages a plus.
• Passionate about Rewilding Europe’s mission, vision, and objectives.
