This structured multi-disciplinary programme has been jointly designed and developed by the School
of Public Leadership (www.spl.sun.ac.za), the Departments of Philosophy, Economics, Public Law,
and Geography. The main aims of this taught, multi-disciplinary programme is to develop:
management skills that will reconcile sustainable development within the limitations of
South Africa and Africa’s valuable and sensitive environment and the institutional
frameworks taking responsibility for it;
abilities to formulate, interpret, implement and monitor environmental policy in the public
and private sectors of Southern Africa;
understanding of the approaches, processes and structures of environmental
management in Southern Africa
