The Secretary General is the most senior position in the Ramsar Convention Secretariat which was established pursuant to Article 8 of the Convention. 24 staff members are currently employed by the Secretariat. The Secretary General works under the direction of the Conference of the Parties and plays a key policy leadership and management role in the delivery of the Convention’s mandate.
