The Maze district of Canyonlands National Park is a remote wilderness consisting of rugged red-rock canyons with outstanding prehistoric rock markings and archeological sites. Duties may include:
  • staffing the backcountry information station, providing trip-planning assistance to visitors (40% of time);
  • patrolling the backcountry by foot and 4WD, sometimes for multiple days and camping in remote settings (30%);
  • leading guided interpretive walks in Horseshoe Canyon (10%);
  • assisting in the district’s recycling program and/or assisting with vehicle maintenance and upkeep (10%); and
  • other duties as assigned, influenced by intern’s skill-set and interest (10%).
