BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we deliver high impact and long-term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.

As the global authority on the conservation status of bird species, BirdLife is currently leading a project to reassess the regional Red List status of all European birds. To support this project and ensure it is completed on time and to a high standard, BirdLife seeks three Technical Assistants to help collate, verify and analyse data, solicit additional information from expert networks, and document the results. This will ensure that BirdLife’s European Species Programme continues to address the highest conservation priorities, whilst informing and supporting the European Partnership, the Preventing Extinctions Programme, and the wider community.

This is an exciting opportunity to join BirdLife’s internationally renowned team, work closely with colleagues and experts across Europe, and help set the agenda for European bird conservation for the coming decade.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Good general knowledge of European bird species (e.g. conservation status, distribution, abundance, ecology and threats).
• Familiarity with international conservation issues and legal frameworks, in particular the EU Birds Directive.
• Awareness of the nature, potential uses and limitations of biodiversity data.
• Understanding of the IUCN Red List criteria and categories, and of the issues involved in assessing species’ regional extinction risk.
• Relevant experience in biodiversity conservation and/or academic research, especially in collating, verifying, analysing, interpreting and disseminating biological data sets (e.g. in peer-reviewed publications or student projects).
