We are seeking an experienced Climate Change Policy Coordinator to lead the development, coordination and promotion of BirdLife’s global climate change policy development and advocacy, delivering clear results at national and international levels, in alignment with BirdLife’s Strategy. In this exciting role the postholder will support the BirdLife Partnership and Secretariat on a range of climate change policy areas within the Climate Change Programme.
Global Climate Change Policy Coordinator
- Location: Cambridge, UK
- Full time: 35 hours per week
- Contract: open ended
- Salary: £34,000 to £39,000 per annum plus competitive 12% pension benefit
- Annual Leave: 25 days pro rata per annum in year 1, increasing by 1 day pa to 28 days
As a key member of BirdLife’s Global Policy Division, you will lead BirdLife’s international climate change and energy policy work, with a focus on nature-sensitive renewable energy development and nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation, adaptation and disaster risk reduction, linking to our work on forest policy and including policy analysis and engagement with international processes, particularly the UNFCCC.
One key focal role will be to coordinate the work of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Energy Task Force with the aim of mainstreaming the conservation of migratory species across the energy sector including through the implementation of important resolutions and the use of relevant guidelines adopted by Parties to the CMS.
The ideal candidate will have:
- An Applied Masters or PhD (or demonstrable equivalent acquired technical skills and knowledge) in the field of climate change.
- Proven working experience and good knowledge of international and/or national climate change and biodiversity policy, especially renewable energy, climate change adaptation and mitigation including ecosystem-based approaches to climate change and environmental safeguards.
- Excellent climate advocacy and communication skills with proficiency in networking and collaboration.
- Personal motivation, focus and ability to work effectively with a decentralised international professional team and co-ordinate achievement of common goals.
- Strong ability to critically assess and synthesise information and write accurately and concisely.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritise workloads and deliver high quality work with minimal supervision in a changing environment with competing demands.
