About the role

As a Field Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of our programs alongside the GVI team. Your responsibilities will include managing participants and students within our groups and assisting the execution of our award-winning programmes. Ultimately, the primary objective of the Field Assistant is to ensure that our groups have an exceptional experience during their time with GVI.

Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the day-to-day responsibilities of the programme, including Health and Safety, diving and conservation programs and volunteer management.
  • Uphold professional staff conduct and regularly communicate with your Coordinator, PM or Senior Coordinator.
  • Organise and lead field trips and activities with volunteers. This includes social evenings, scientific survey work, community events, GVI-led recreational activities such as snorkels, hikes, evening activities or any other scheduled or ad-hoc activity.
  • Have a weekly meeting with the Coordinator where the coming weeks tasks and challenges will be discussed.
  • To be delegated daily tasks by the Coordinator, PM or Senior Coordinator such as assisting with maintenance, scheduling, stocktaking, reports, presentations and workshops.
  • Ensure high quality of dive and survey training of participants and that all data collected is suitably reported and stored on databases and backed up, in co-ordination with other GVI staff.
  • Assist the PM to continuously seek to improve the quality of the program for volunteers. This might include such things as extra activities, training opportunities, base improvements or expansion, services or expedition products.
  • Create a fun and educational environment for participants at all times.
  • Should expect to be working in the field 4-5 days a week depending on the season and perform office duties the remainder of the week.
  • Under the direction of an instructor attend in-water and out-of-water training with regards to your Divemaster. This includes but is not limited to OW, AOW, Rescue, EFR, etc. courses.

Professional skills and experience:

  • Passion for marine conservation and a science-led approach.
  • Degree or relevant experience working in the marine or conservation sector.
  • Must be PADI Open Water certified or equivalent by an internationally recognized training authority.
  • PADI medical needed.
  • Experience living in remote or communal living conditions.
  • Experience managing groups/participants/students (we will provide all project-specific training in-country).
