Overview

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center (FRWC) offers an internship for an upper-level undergraduate student or recent-graduate interested in animal management skills (university course credits available upon request). Although details may be negotiable, the timing is generally Spring (January – May), Summer (May – August), and Fall (August – December).

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Morning and evening feeding routine, including observing all the animals and documenting (verbally or in writing) any concerns seen—pregnancy, new offspring, lameness, fighting, etc.
  • Working closely with other hoofstock department personnel on projects including cleaning, maintenance, veterinary assistance during procedures, participating in neonate exams (seasonal), fence maintenance and/or repair, and others duties as required within the department.
  • The intern will produce a report on a topic of his/her interest that benefits Fossil Rim animal management and present that to the staff near the end of the internship.
  • This intern will work with other staff in the hoofstock department, but may also work more independently as necessary.
A $300/month stipend (for expenses) and free on-site housing are provided. If required, transportation to and from training area will be provided. Course credit can be arranged with the intern’s institution of study.
Desired Experience, Capabilities and Educational Skills:
At least three years of undergraduate college work in wildlife management, conservation biology, or a related scientific discipline. Previous internships recommended. You must also have a valid driver’s license.
International students must have a J1 or B1 visa before arrival. Fossil Rim will not sponsor or assist with the visa process. Interns cannot come on a visiting visa.

If selected, candidate must have a TB test conducted within 30 days prior to arrival for internship.
