Two centuries on, it remains a beautiful rural area, the majority designated within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). In order to maintain and enhance this special landscape, the Kent Downs AONB Unit has successfully attracted £4m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and several other sources to deliver the Darent Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme (DVLPS).
