Role Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic Marketing Executive to support the Zoos Marketing Manager with the planning and implementation of marketing communications campaigns for our two Zoos, including marketing support for all commercial events.

 

This key role in the Marketing team represents a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about promoting opportunities to bring people and wildlife closer together. You will work closely with colleagues across Marketing and Engagement to integrate activity to grow visitor numbers and maximise income, and with colleagues across ZSL directorates in support of the visitor experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting (and in some cases taking the lead on) delivery of consumer marketing campaigns for day visits and special events at both zoos (such as Zoo Nights, Sunset Safari), including media planning, creative development, stakeholder management and reporting.
  • Project management to ensure that deadlines are hit, creative and copywriting are proofed, reporting and billing are accurate and timely, and co-ordination between ZSL and agencies/other partners is efficient at all times.
  • Support ticket setup with the IT department and co-ordinate ticket tracking for commercial events.
  • Manage the annual planning, production and distribution of consumer flyers and on-site visitor collateral.
  • Deliver ad hoc projects including competitor analysis which feed in to the Head of Marketing and Marketing Manager’s strategic planning.
  • Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, particularly media and design agencies, the ZSL design Studio, IT and marcomms colleagues. Lead contact for the catering and retail teams in London.
  • Provide effective marketing-related administrative support to the wider marketing team.
  • Alongside other marketing colleagues, act as brand guardian for ZSL London and Whipsnade Zoos, providing support for colleagues and partners where necessary.
  • Copywriting and editing online marketing material such as social posts, PPC copy, website event pages.
  • Liaising with colleagues in Press/PR, social media, web and online trading teams and others in Marketing and Engagement to ensure that marketing campaigns and activities are integrated with and supported by other communications activities, to maximise visitor numbers and income.
  • Liaising with Creative Studio and onsite print/production colleagues as required to deliver onsite marketing campaigns targeting zoo visitors.

Person Specification

The post holder will need to be an enthusiastic and confident individual who is passionate about marketing and communications and able to identify new opportunities and bring new ideas to the team.

 

They will need to be professional in approach and be able to confidentially articulate ideas. They should be comfortable meeting new people. A creative thinker would be beneficial and certainly the ability to be able to critically review campaign plans and creative.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience of marketing and project management. Formal marketing qualification advantageous.
  • Experience planning, implementing, monitoring and reporting on multi-channel campaigns. This should include offline and online media channels including out-of-home, print, DM, email marketing and PPC.
  • Experience developing creative and working with spreadsheets is essential, as is a good level of numeracy.
  • Copywriting experience across all channels including writing optimised website and social copy.
  • Experience of CMS management and digital analytics would be a distinct advantage.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of visitor attractions (e.g. museums, galleries, heritage and leisure sites).
  • Knowledge of commercial marketing disciplines.
  • Knowledge of project management.

Skills & Abilities

  • A strong level of numeracy and literacy is required.
  • Financial awareness and comfortable analysing and reporting figures.
  • An ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to think creatively e.g. generating content ideas, suggesting partnerships/promotions or solving problems.
  • Ability to work well in cross-functional teams as a representative of the marketing team and effectively communicate with different stakeholders.
  • The role will need to work autonomously and the post holder should be able to be self-motivated and driven.
  • Experience in managing the creative process including amends, feedback, copy and design quality checking and approvals process.
  • Advanced skills in using MS office packages, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
