Overview

Mentor and teach youth outdoor environmental science education as an Outdoor Program Instructor (OPI) while living in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Many of our students are denied access to high-quality STEM opportunities and come from schools and communities that face financial barriers. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that’s been around for 15 years, we have a diverse client mix bringing a variety of opportunities and experiences daily while positively impacting the lives of program participants.

Sierra Nevada Journeys’ camp is located in Northern California in the Plumas National Forest which is part of the Sierra Nevada mountains, just north of Lake Tahoe. Also, school-based programs occur out of our Reno, NV and Sacramento, CA locations.

Sierra Nevada Journeys pays $95-105 per day plus other perks such as paid time off and work day meals.

  • Full time, seasonal, Feb. 7 – Nov. 15, 2022
  • $95-105/day plus off-site housing and work day meals which is equivalent to $172.77/wk
  • Benefits: paid time off, sick days, 403(b) retirement plan with 4% match
  • pay for certifications or experience working with BIPOC students, lifeguard, science instruction, Wilderness First Aid, or First Responder
  • +3% for bilingual fluency in Spanish
  • Live and work in Northern California, Plumas National Forest

OPIs live off site in homes in the nearby town of Portola, CA, with your fellow colleagues (included in your compensation package); you’ll have extensive BEETLES training – the unique research-based approach to teaching science by the Lawrence Hall of Science at UC Berkeley.
