Overview

The Environmental Council of Sacramento and Habitat 2020 (a conservation committee within ECOS) are recruiting for a Policy Analyst to assist with development of policy positions and management of environmental initiatives and campaigns. Topic areas include climate change, land use, transportation, environmental justice, green building, water, and habitat preservation in the jurisdictions in Sacramento County, as well as in the six-county region included in SACOG (metropolitan planning organization).

We seek a hardworking and motivated self-starter who is willing to engage on multiple policy fronts. Education and experience would be helpful but are not essential as we will mentor and educate as needed.

Compensation — $50,000-60,000 per year

Scope of Position

  1. Coordinate with Committee Chairs and Team Leads on the development of policy positions and management of environmental initiatives and campaigns. Work with and assist volunteers in efforts to improve local plans and programs impacting the Sacramento region in topic areas such as the following:
    • Natomas Basin habitat conservation and East County Blue Oak Woodlands preservation
    • Limiting highway expansions and promoting transit and transit-oriented development
    • Local and regional plans for climate action, land use, transportation, and infill development
    • Water quality and supply projects including watershed resilience, groundwater recharge, etc.
    • Extreme heat remediation especially in disadvantaged neighborhoods
  2. With direction and assistance by Committee Chairs and Team Leads, organize, prepare and deliver written and oral reports, comments, support letters, and presentation materials.
  3. Identify and investigate potential new issues within the region that may merit ECOS engagement.
  4. Identify grant opportunities to support ECOS operations and initiatives and, by working with ECOS’ Director of Operations and volunteers, prepare grant applications.
  5. Prepare brief monthly reports and updates for executive and committee meetings and bimonthly Board meetings; attend committee meetings as necessary.
  6. Account for work hours related to specific tasks in weekly report.
