Overview

The implementation of a number of key policy directives regarding the Falkland Islands Fishery has created a new opportunity for a Programme Director – Fisheries to join the Natural Resources Department on a two year fixed term contract. 

The Role

The Programme Director – Fisheries will support the Director of Natural Resources on the delivery of an early ITQ renewal process, the establishment of an ITQ management system and the implementation of tasks resulting from the institutional review of the fisheries dept and the review of the management of the Finfish Fishery.

This will involve formulating and implementing policies, legislation, standards, plans and strategies for sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources that reflect accords and FI/International legislation.  Consulting with expert advisors, the science team, the control & enforcement team and stakeholders, as appropriate you will also develop and oversee the implementation of a new operational management system for the finfish fishery

The Person

This position is best suited for a highly motivated individual that can lead and facilitate complex conversations related to fisheries policy and fisheries management. The individual must also have a clear understanding of both political and policy contexts on fishery matters.

The individual best suited to this role will have at least 10 years’ of postgraduate professional experience in research, development, management, evaluation and/or regulation and monitoring of fisheries.

Essential criteria include; a MSc level qualification in a relevant subject matter and a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries science/management with a course emphasis or experience in stock assessment, aquatic habitat and ecology, population dynamics or other related subject matters

The Package

• Fixed Term Contract of up to 2 years.
• Starting Salary (inclusive of 25% taxable gratuity) – £63,463 up to £70,365 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) rising to £95,261.
• 41 days paid leave, 30 days annual leave and 11 public holidays.
• Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
• Flights Package for you and any recognised dependents residing with you at post both at the beginning and end of contract, along with additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract.
