The Sea Search volunteer programme is aimed at students and graduates looking for long term placements to develop analytical skills, conduct student projects or theses and experience real research. Interns will assist with data collection for all cetacean species found in the coastal waters around the Cape peninsula and False Bay, including humpback, right and Bryde's whales, orcas, Heaviside's, dusky, bottlenose, humpback and common dolphins, as well as African penguins and sunfish. The aims of our research follows two main themes - determining ecological interactions of top predators in a changing environment and investigating the acoustic repertoire and behaviour of all species, with a special focus on feeding humpback whales on the west coast.
