This position is located in the temperate rainforest of southeastern Alaska, with work on remote islands in rugged terrain. The primary job of the intern will be to survey and census vascular plants of the district and document rare plant occurrences alongside the botanist or ecology staff. Additionally, the intern will inventory invasive plants and work to control infestations with manual and chemical means. Data collection is typically with a tablet, and time will be spent with ArcGIS Online (AGOL) interface. A small portion of time may be spent developing and conducting environmental education activities, and may include time spent working with other natural resource management specialists (e.g. wildlife, fish or recreation).
