Intern
• Implementing a new wildlife monitoring protocol in the Okavango Delta, Botswana in accordance with SAREP.
• 10 weeks (72 days) valuable field experience in wildlife monitoring situated in the Khwai Community Concession including but not limited to herbivore transects, predator spoor transects, deployment, running and maintaining a new camera trap grid survey, sorting and filing these photos into species for data analysis, installing predator ID camera traps, predation records, and recording opportunistic sightings of rare and endangered species. Assisted in teaching the new students the above processes.
• Assisted in the creation and improvement of Cheetah, Lion, Leopard and African Wild Dog identification kits using whisker and coat patterns. Along with taking clear photographs to use to ID these predators.
• Created a new Hyena ID kit.
• Enjoyed working long days (often 10-12 hours in the field) outside in the field. Practiced appropriate “sun smart behavior”.
