Bat Occupancy Technician March 2015- May 2015
Collected acoustic data with SM2+ detector for a study on bat occupancy in the Northern portion of the state of Missouri. Acoustic data will be used to create an occupancy model for the northern part of the state. Confirmation of audio data was done through mist-netting of study areas. After promotion to resource assistant duties were increased to include mist-netting for specific target species, Indiana bat and northern long eared myotis, for a forestry study & occasional assistance in radio tracking of said species. A full time position.

Western Ecosystems Incorporated various locations Central & Northern IL Biological Technician – Avian Fatality 2012-2014
Conducted scheduled line-plot and transect surveys according to established protocols to assess avian fatality on recently developed wind energy farms. Identified and documented fatalities. Conducted search efficiency tests on other technicians conducting surveys. Maintained Anabat © detectors in the field. Approx. 30 hours per week, varied.

Native Ecosystems Restoration Intern Sept 2011-March 2012
Assist MRC program directors in various tasks including but not limited to the following: Taking notes and photo points during native planting site assessment using GPS and aerial photography as a reference. Planting native trees and grasses on project areas, mainly on landslide zones and BLM native grassland reclamation areas. General maintenance at native plant nursery. Native Seed collection. Manual and chemical removal of invasive species including French & Scotch broom, Japanese Knotweed, and Cape Ivy. 30-40 hours per week.

Participated in a number of conservation corps projects in the National Parks and Forests of California. Fire line restoration, mosaic fuels reduction, and trail construction in the Cleveland National Forest. Invasive thistle removal (manual) at Pinnacles National Monument. Trail construction south of Lake Tahoe. 40 hours per week.

Provided general information to visitors to the RRG visitor’s center and special events. Assisted in development of interpretive materials. Also some work in backcountry maintenance and handling visitor safety concerns after the recent bear attack and during the Bear Creek fire. 40 hours per week.
