Description

Steve De Neef is a photojournalist, filmmaker and cinematographer based in Maine who specializes in conservation, documentary, underwater and aerial photography. He often works with scientists and NGO’s in the hopes of inspiring positive change and getting research and conservation efforts seen by a broader audience.
Steve has worked with numerous magazines, newspapers, NGO’s and production companies like National Geographic, BBC, Hakai Magazine, The Pew Charitable Trust, Discovery Channel, New York Times, TIME, LA Times, Asian Geographic, Ocean Geographic, Oceana, Asian Diver, Nature’s Best Photography, Scuba Diver Australasia, Sportdiver, Habitat for Humanity, Concern Worldwide, Red Cross, 60 minutes Australia, and many more.

As a broadcast cinematographer, Steve has filmed for the BBC Natural History Unit series Shark and National Geographic’s 2017 documentary Sea of Hope.

Steve’s images and films have been shown and won awards in numerous competitions and film festivals like Nature’s Best Photography, Outdoor Photographer of the Year, Beneath the Sea, Beneath the Waves film festival, Wildlife Conseravtion and Film Festival, San Fransisco Ocean Fim Festival, Ocean Art, ADEX (Asian Dive Expo) photographer of the year, Oasis and more.

Steve is a regular speaker on photography, videography, marine life and conservation and has spoken at events like CITES and TedX. Since 2013 he’s been a member of the prestigious Ocean Artists Society.
