The post has two primary responsibilities. First, to lead the Arctic Office in developing activities that will deliver the strategic requirements of a variety of academic and policy stakeholders. Second, until its completion in 2017, the postholder will act as coordinator for the NERC Arctic Research Programme, providing leadership and coordination for scientific projects involved. The postholder will need to travel extensively and participate in a variety of fora in Europe and beyond. Based in Cambridge, and reporting to the Director of Science (BAS), they will have experience of polar science and the ability to understand and represent a range of scientific disciplines. They will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to network, influence and negotiate.
