Research Area and Project Description: This postdoc project is part of a project “Megafauna ecosystem ecology from the deep prehistory to a human-dominated future” (MegaPast2Future: https://projects.au.dk/mega/), funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. There is increasing focus on restoring historically depleted megafaunas as a means to facilitate self-managing biodiverse ecosystems (trophic rewilding). At the same time our knowledge of the ecological and biodiversity effects of such megafauna restoration is relatively limited. This postdoc will address this knowledge gap through field-based studies in southern Africa, making use of the numerous nature and game reserves in the region with varied compositions and levels of restored megafauna. Key focal response groups will include plants,
