Globally, fresh water resources are increasingly under stress so the need for their sustainable management is increasing. This requires deep understanding of the physical, chemical and biological processes that determine the volume and quality of this valuable resource. On the other hand, the impacts and risks of anthropogenic activities on this resource should be understood. Ultimately, our work aims at sustainable management of water resources providing safe and reliable water provisioning for society and ecosystems, resilience to floods and droughts, and sustainable use of water by agriculture, industry and energy production.
