This is an exciting opportunity to provide support to BirdLife’s input into the Mediterranean MAVA M3 Outcome Action Plan that addresses Coastal wetland degradation due to coastal development and water abstraction, one of the main elements of MAVA’s Mediterranean Strategy for 2016-2022.

  • Location: Cambridge, UK
  • Full time: 35 hours per week
  • Contract: one year fixed term with the possibility of extension
  • Salary: £22,000-24,000 pro rata per annum dependent on experience.  Plus competitive 12% pension benefit
  • Annual Leave: 25 days pro rata per annum in year 1, increasing by 1 day pa to 28 days

We are looking for someone to assist the Senior IBA Conservation Officer for Europe & Central Asia on the delivery of the MAVA Outcome Action Plan, ensuring the specific actions and objectives listed under this project are achieved within the planned timeline at the demonstration sites. You will oversee the technical, financial and administrative management of selected wetland projects and support/lead on specific deliverables. Special focus will be on the effectiveness of conservation approaches in wetlands and on supporting the assessment of Ecosystem Services.

Other duties will include supporting the Senior IBA Conservation Officer in the implementation of BirdLife’s IBA Strategy as well as the development of a threat reporting mobile app for monitoring IBAs, KBAs and Natura 2000 sites.

You will work with a wide range of people both within the organisation and externally and your ability to build positive relationships and engage effectively at all levels will be key to the success of the role.

You will be a highly motivated and focused individual able to deliver high quality work to support the ambitious conservation goals of BirdLife.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience managing and/or supervising projects, including the use of project management tools, such as Gantt Charts, logframes and budgets.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently while having a positive outlook
  • Proven experience working amongst a diverse group of stakeholders and/or project partners
  • Previous experience preparing technical and financial reports for donors or public/private institutions
  • Desirable research background on species, wetland conservation and or assessment of ecosystem services
  • High level of fluency in English is required
  • Experience with analysing and interpreting scientific data
