  • Work with MWT and others to designate monitoring sites and to recruit and support butterfly recording volunteers
  • Undertake quality control of records (validation of data and verification of species identification), with assistance from other experts from Butterfly Conservation
  • Carry out data entry and work closely with the MBRP Biological Records Manager to maintain the computer database of the IOM butterfly records
  • Work with the MBRP Biological Records Manager to upload data to Butterfly Conservation and the Manx NBN Atlas via the IOM Recorder 6 database, annually by March 31 into their UK database
  • Respond to queries about records from Butterfly Conservation

  • Provide encouragement, information, support and feedback to local recorders (e.g. through direct communication, writing newsletters, reports and articles for web pages, meetings etc.)

  • Help run public events (e.g. bug hunts and BioBlitz) to promote butterfly recording and engage with local communities, landowners and the wider public
  • Raise awareness of butterfly losses and conservation by providing local, expert comment for the media
  • Provide butterfly data and/or interpretation of data to users such as local and regional biodiversity partnerships, biological records centres, wildlife trusts, ecological consultants, planning enquiries etc
