ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF PATAGONIAN TOOTHFISH LONGLINE FISHING ON VULNERABLE MARINE ECOSYSTEMS Consolidated Fisheries Ltd (CFL) was awarded MSC certification for the Falkland Islands Patagonian toothfish fishery in 2014. After conducting initial Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs) predictive habitat modelling, a clearer understanding of the extent of VME and at-risk species was presented in 2018. However there are significant gaps in empirical evidence for understanding real-world impacts of fishing on the seabed. An assessment of the risk and recovery of VMEs is now required. This industry-funded position is aimed at meeting the sustainability targets of CFL and the Falkland Islands Government.
