Overview

£32-35k p/a depending on experience

Freshwater Habitats Trust is now recruiting a Senior Freshwater Invertebrate Biologist based in our Oxford office. The post is initially a 1-year full time contract, with the expectation of conversion to a permanent position for suitable applicants.

Freshwater Habitats Trust is a friendly, evidence-based, conservation charity, tackling the freshwater biodiversity crisis through policy, research and innovative practical conservation projects.

We are looking for an experienced freshwater invertebrate biologist to undertake standard freshwater invertebrate surveys of streams, ponds, ditches and other freshwater habitats, and to identify invertebrate samples at both family and species level. The appointee should be able to demonstrate the ability to analyse and report results in writing and verbally and, ideally, to design, develop and implement new projects. Depending on the interests of the successful candidate, there is potential to spend up to 30% of the job working in other areas of freshwater research or practice, including non-invertebrate survey work, habitat creation, data analysis and interpretation and the publication of research and/or policy papers. Travel to survey locations will require use of own car.

For the right person this is significant opportunity to develop skills and experience and make a substantial contribution to the conservation of freshwater invertebrates and their habitats, with a particular focus on small waters and the protected species they support.
